The history of Arran Crofter Huts
Long before the huts were here, our family were crofters on this land. They cared for a small herd of animals and around 600 chickens. Grandpa is still referred to by some as ‘Ken the hen’.
It’s no longer a working croft, but our connection to the land remains just as strong.
Today the shepherd huts offer guests a chance to experience the peace, closeness to nature, open skies, and slower pace of life that we’ve always loved about this wee corner of Arran.
Meet the family
We’re Suzi, Helen, Sam and James. And represent 3 generations of the family.
We took on this project over lockdown as a way to regenerate the land, and bring some life back to Hazelbank.
We do everything for the business – including maintaining the land, managing the bookings and making sure our guests get the most from their stay.
Why shepherd huts
We wanted to create something that was both traditional and luxurious. The huts are a nod to the croft that was once here, and they also fit in perfectly with the landscape of Arran.
We commissioned their build from a family in Perthshire and brought them over on the Lochranza ferry.
We opened in late 2025 and have had excellent reviews from our guests.
