How to plan a romantic getaway on Arran
Your guide to planning the ultimate weekend away with your loved one.
The best time of year to visit Arran
To get the best of Arran, visit between April and October. This way you’ll get to experience the best:

Romantic accommodation options
We recommend:
- Arran Crofter Huts, Whiting Bay – luxury glamping that offers a memorable stay

- Glenisle hotel, Lamlash – a cozy atmosphere with a popular bar area
Memorable activities for couples on Arran
For walks we recommend:
- Glen Rosa – many couples have got engaged here
- Lochranza Castle – stunning ruins with a serene backdrop
- Kilmory beach – a secluded spot with white sands that goes on for miles when it’s low tide
- Machrie Moor standing stones – experience ancient mystery at these Neolithic stone circles
For activities we recommend:
- horse riding with North Sannox Pony Trekking – take a ride through the glen and along the beach
- boat tour around Holy Isle with Lamlash Cruises
- spa treatments at Auchrannie Resort
- whisky tasting at Lochranza Distillery
Dining experiences – romantic restaurants and picnic spots
You’re spoiled for choice on Arran, but our favourite places for a special meal are:
- a takeaway from Robin Gray’s Island Gourmet – bring a bottle of something along to enjoy with your food on the beach
- a picnic of ‘picky bits’ from The Bay Stores eaten at Kings Cross point, Whiting Bay
- The Lamlash Bay Hotel – local produce cooked to perfection
- Brambles at Auchrannie Resort – fine seafood, premium meats and great plant-based options
Best viewpoints for sunset and stargazing
The best sunset views are on the west coast. Specifically Blackwaterfoot, Pirnmill and Lochranza.
If you’re heading to Blackwaterfoot, you could enjoy a sunset stroll along the beach. And watch the sun set over Drumadoon and the Kilbrannan sound.
For stargazing, the southern and west parts of Arran offer the darkest skies.
The Machrie Moor Standing Stones would provide a dramatic, atmospheric setting.
Or you could enjoy the stars from your bed at Arran Crofter Huts…
