View across the mountains of Arran

Packing list for a Scottish glamping getaway

The essentials

A checklist of essential items include:

  • clothes that you can layer
  • a light waterproof jacket – if you want bang for your buck, I really recommend a Mac in a Sac
  • walking shoes or boots – there is a boot box outside of your hut where you can keep muddy boots
  • jammies
  • underwear and socks – including hiking socks
  • swimming stuff – for sea dips or the Auchrannie resort
  • toiletries – including sun cream
  • reusable water bottle – there is filtered water tap in your hut
  • midge repellent – Smidge is popular on Arran

If you forget any of these items, we recommend a shopping trip to Brodick. Arran Active was voted the best independent outdoor retailer in Scotland – it is fab!

Comfort and relaxation

You might want to bring:

  • slippers or thick socks
  • hot water bottle – if coming in early spring or late autumn
  • kindle or books – we provide books in the hut if you don’t want to bring one
  • games – we provide cards, dominos and draughts
  • art supplies – we provide watercolour pencils, a sketchpad and other bits and bobs

If you want to shop locally, there is an independent artist who creates thoughtful journalling and collaging kits. Scottish Island Living (Fiona Doubleday) is based in Whiting Bay, and can deliver goodies to your hut.

Food and drink

You could bring:

  • easy breakfast options – like porridge sachets, pancakes and fruit
  • savoury snacks – like olives, nuts, spreads, dips and breadsticks
  • sweet treats – like hot chocolate and popcorn

If you want to buy food and drink on the island, Bay Stores is around a 5-minute walk away. It stocks the best snack selection known-to-man.

Fun extras

To elevate your stay, you could bring a:

  • pamper kit – including a facemask, footmask or handmask
  • disposable camera – if you want to put your phone away and enjoy a digital detox, but still capture memories
  • crafting or building kit – you could learn to crochet, make a model or do some lego
