Rainy day itinerary – what to do on a wet day on Arran
There’s no such thing as bad weather – you’ve just not got enough layers on! That’s what my granny always says anyway.
Here’s what we recommend for a rainy day on Arran.
Morning coffee, walk and brunch
Send your travel buddy (if applicable) to get coffee from Bay Stores and stay in bed with your book (or DIY with the coffee pods in your hut).
Then head the Dyemill in Lamlash for a sheltered walk under the trees. Or stay in Whiting Bay and head up to Glenashdale to see the falls.
Drop in to Old Pier Cafe in Lamlash. We recommend the veggie sausage rolls and the quiche of the day. For dessert, you simply cannot miss the cinnamon buns.
Afternoon shopping and spa trip
No visit to Arran is complete without a wee shopping trip.
Head to Brodick and visit:
- Arran Active for outdoor gear
- Invercloy on the corner for books, stationery and coffee
- Red Door for gifts
- James of Arran – Chocolate Factory
- Arran Sense of Scotland for soap and candles
- Arran Cheese Shop
- Arran Gift Box at Home Farm
Time for a relaxing spa
Now to Auchrannie Spa resort for a relaxing swim or a treatment. We highly recommend the spa treatments (book ahead). The post-treatment sorbet and the relaxation room are unmissable.
While at The Auchrannie, download some movies to watch back at your hut.
Evening takeaway and chill
On your way back to the hut, grab yourself a cosy takeaway to enjoy. There are so many options. We love The Shack for burgers, The French Fox and Arran Simply Thai. The Shanghai Chinese is really good too!
If you’d rather eat out, Brambles at The Auchrannie is fab.
