Foodies guide to Arran – one day itinerary

Here’s our guide to the best eats on Arran. For a wee island we sure do pack a punch in the food and drink department.

Remember to check opening hours before you travel – some of these recommendations have seasonal opening hours.

Breakfast and coffee spots

  • Head through to Brodick for a French-inspired brunch at The French Fox.
  • Take a drive over the string road and take a walk on Blackwaterfoot beach.
  • Head up to Machrie for the Old Byre Showroom and Cafe Thyme for coffee and homemade cake. Then browse in the luxury outdoor clothing and footwear barns.

Lunch and afternoon drinks

  • Take a walk around the historic Kings Caves to work up an appetite.
  • Now it’s time for lunch at Mara Fish Bar and Deli. Check their Facebook for their opening hours.
  • Retire to the beer garden at The Corrie Hotel. This is a great place to spot dolphins and other wildlife.
  • On your way home, don’t miss the Arran Botanical Drinks. This beach bar serves up a range of delicious cocktails, mocktails, beer and wine.

Dinner and a nightcap

  • If you’re still hungry, take a stroll down to the centre of the village to Arran Simply Thai. You’ll need to book a table (or a takeaway) in advance.
  • Walk a wee bit further along the village to The Shurig for a nightcap.
